There’s no question that being wealthy and having endless financial means can be an enormous asset when seeking top tier mental health treatment services. As in any other similar scenario, money definitely buys options. But the question that is all too often forgotten is, is having wealth and riches sometimes the catalyst behind one finding his or herself in that position in the first place? There’s no question that in large part, mental health maladies are a function of chemical imbalances and other biological deficiencies, but can the lavish, poshy lifestyle customary to wealthy individuals become somewhat of a setup in terms of creating a fertile ground for future psych issues?
How many times have we heard stories on news reports or read articles describing the downward spiral prevalent to lotto winners and other types of individuals in positions of having encountered vast amounts of money in a short amount of time? In most cases it isn’t the doctors or lawyers or corporate moguls which have endured the test of time; it is those whom have seen a drastic change in lifestyle within a shot time. It seems as if these wealthy individuals are prone to a turbo life burnout of some sort that often manifests itself in a variety of mental health issues including; depression, anxiety, drug addiction, alcoholism, pornography, gambling, emotional instability and so on…
If we take a close look at these individuals it is common to see that the answer is often “yes,” that is, being wealthy can sometimes precede impending mental health illnesses. It’s almost as if their vast amounts of money, which is of course relative to how much they previously had, is the key to creating a new pattern of living which, if not kept in check by a strong emotional sense of being, will commonly spiral them into damaging behaviors through doorways not previously open to them. Is this to say they would not have encountered such issues had they remained financially strapped? Of course not, but it certainly helped to set the stage.
