There are endless reasons as to why a marriage may be suffering and ultimately may be on the road to inevitable ruin. People get married because of love, but often they do not realize that love is an action as well as a feeling. Since early childhood we become so accustomed to hearing terms like “true love” and “love at first site,” all of which tend to imply a sense of ease and simplicity in the element of relationship management but as we learn early on in the course of marriage, it is anything BUT ease and simplicity!
There are many reason as to why a marriage may be suffering. Likewise, there are various levels as to the seriousness of the situation. The first concrete principle is this; if the love still exists then there always remains hope for resolution. If however the couple has surpassed the point of the existence of love then unfortunately they have reached the point of no return and must look to the future rather than the past. The trick is to be able to look past the overt fighting and disagreements and to be able to actually determine whether or not the love truly exists. In the midst of anger, resentment and possibly shouting voices, it is extremely difficult to filter through those outward feelings and discern whether or not a true mutual feeling of love actually exists.
